The Challenge Following the success of an onboard surveillance program for buses initiated in 2001, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) decided to deploy mobile DVR systems on its light rail vehicles. Seven vendors responded to its Request for Proposal. VTA then invited three to participate in a three-month equipment demonstration. The authority was looking for an experienced security vendor that could deliver a reliable mobile DVR system with excellent image quality and proven, wireless diagnostic and video download capabilities The Solution Upon completion of its equipment trial, VTA selected March Networks mobile DVRs and software from Viscom Products, a division of Diversified Security Solutions, Inc. The solution includes 5000 Series MDVRs and Enterprise Management Suite software. It will enable VTA to communicate with the onboard systems from its central monitoring station over an 802.11g wireless network, and schedule automated wireless video downloads to enhance efficiencies
