The Challenge
Without wireless connectivity, contractors with the Las Vegas-based Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada had to physically board buses and connect a laptop to the recorder to download video evidence. They also had to rely on operators to alert them to performance issues. The system was expensive to operate and problems weren’t always addressed in a timely manner.

The Solution
The decision to acquire March Networks recorders with wireless networking capability for new buses joining the fleet solved both problems. When the 170 buses equipped with March Networks 5412 MDVRs return to one of the commission’s two service depots at the end of a run, the recorders will automatically transmit video clips tagged by either the operator or the system administrator. The system also transmits health status reports detailing issues relating to hard drive or camera performance.
